Global Design Project #301 & TGIF Challenge #326

Hey Everyone

In between watching the Olympics today, I quickly whipped up a project for the Global Design Project and TGIF Challenges. The challenge at GDP is a pretty colour challenge and the one at TGIF is a technique challenge.

When I first started with Stampin’ Up! over 11 years ago, I remember making a gift bag out of an envelope. It was a really wow moment for me, so I decided to create one for the Decorated Envelope Challenge.

I took an everyday envelope and stuck the flap down. I then trimmed a smidge off the short sides of the envelope as I wanted to turn them in to the top and base of the gift bag. I put the envelope on my trimmer and scored the long sides at 3/4 ” and the short side at 1″. On this end where I scored at 1″ I took my scissors and cut slits where the long ends were scored up to the 1″ line. This created flaps. On the long ends of the envelope, I created gussets by enforcing the crease lines I had given them. Once the gusset lines has been reinforced, I then folded the base together and adhered with Tombow Glue. The envelope then had a flat base and could stand up on it’s own.

I had some off cut pieces of Night Of Navy Cardstock so I trimmed them and added a strip to the top and bottom of the bag. Night of Navy and Coastal Cabana stars were cut with the Christmas Trimmings Dies. I also cut some leafy embellishments in Coast Cabana and Polished Pink Cardstocks.

The twine was made with my Dark Polished Pink Blend and White Bakers Twine. I coloured the twine with the blend until I was happy with the coverage. I used my Postage Die Punch to punch out slits in to the sides of the bag so that the twine stayed in place.

A sentiment circle was punched with a retired circle punch and tied off with a piece of Linen Thread. The sentiment is from the matching stamp set to the dies – it’s called Tidings & Trimmings Stamp Set. One Basic Rhinestone was added for a bit of bling.

Just Add Ink #564

Hey Everyone

We have a new challenge to play along with at Just Add Ink. This week our challenge for you is to:

I chose trees and sky for my card. The trees were made with the Majestic Mountain Dies. Bermuda Bay Cardstock was the colour I chose for them. The sky has been created with a Blending Brush and some Pool Party Ink.

I added some kangaroo and butterfly images from the Kangaroo and Company Stamp Set to create a fun scene. I have 3 great nieces so there’s always a birthday coming up. My roos have been coloured with the Crumb Cake Blends and the Light Soft Suede Blend – this one was to give definition in the creases. My butterfly was coloured with the Bermuda Bay Blends. The bouquet of flowers was given a really quick colour with the Highland Heather Blends. I used the Colour Lifter to take away some of the colour in the flowers so that they appear different shades.

After roughing up the edges of the cardstock and bending the top left side of the card, my card was finished.

The team at Just Add Ink have created wonderful projects for this weeks challenge. Head over to the challenge and see what they created.

Freshly Made Sketches #495

Hey Everyone

We have a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches my crafty friends. The super talented and amazingly creative Amy O’Neill has designed this awesome sketch.

I saw this sketch and in one second decided I wanted to use the Dressed To Impress Stamp Set. These super cool images are perfect to layer and I think kind of match the sketch. I’ve coloured the images with Highland Heather Blends. I also took my Colour Lifter and really diluted the ink. The flowers have been given colour with my Bermuda Bay Blends. I also lifted a lot of the colour of them to give them a washed look.

The background of my card was shaded with Pool Party Ink and a Blending Brush. If you don’t have these brushes yet, you need them. They are so easy to use and give amazing coverage. I then took the Dark Smoky Slate Blend and put the nib in the edge of the lid and flicked the ink on my card.

For a little more embellishment, I added some Crinkled Whisper White Ribbon and some Silver Metallic Pearls.

Here’s my card:

Freshly Made Sketches #494

Hey Everyone

It’s time for a new sketch challenge to play along with at Freshly Made Sketches. This week it was my turn to design the sketch. I forgot and had to whip up a quick sketch and quick card to go with it.

The Artistically Inked Stamp Set featured on my card. I stamped up the flowers in Gorgeous Grape and Highland Heather Inks. The leaves have been stamped in Mint Macaron Ink. All images were fussy cut out.

To create the background rectangle type shape, I used a gold foil die cut from the Expressions In Ink Ephemera Pack. I also pressed out some gold leaves from the same sheet in the pack. The sentiment that has been added to my card is from the Artistically Inked Stamp Set.

The pretty little sequins that I have added (3 as always) are a little bonus in the Expressions In Ink Ephemera Pack. They actually change colour with the light.

A quick and easy card for forgetful person like me!

The team have created wonderful cards that they created with my sketch. Pop over to the challenge and see what they’ve come up with.

Just Add Ink #562

Hey Everyone

There’s a new challenge to play along with at Just Add Ink. This week is inspiration picture week. Take a look at the festive pic we have for you. You can either choose to go with Christmas or just use the colours to create your projects.

I went with a Christmas card. I seem to be on a roll with them at the moment.

The stamp set I’ve featured on my card is called Poinsettia Petals. The matching Poinsettia Dies make light work of this card. The images have been coloured with a mix of Real Real and Cherry Cobbler Blends. I coloured the leaves with the Soft Succulent Blends and the little stems of nuts with Soft Suede Blends.

I embossed the background piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock with the Tasteful Texture Embossing Folder and quickly roughed up the edges of it with my finger. I wanted to add some more interest to the card – because why not? – so I added some retired ribbon and stapled the end before pulling the ribbon end apart to give it a vintage-y kind of feel. Three Gold Metallic Pearls finished off the card.

The team at Just Add Ink have created wonderful cards that will inspire you. Head over to the challenge and see what they’ve created.

Freshly Made Sketches #493

Hey Everyone

There’s a new sketch to play along with at Freshly Made Sketches. This week our sketch designer is the wonderfully talented Karren Johnson.

I’m continuing with Christmas cards for no other reason than the stamp set was still sitting on my desk from last week. I have just realised that I have used the same colours as the sketch! Didn’t even realise until I started writing this post.

The Tidings & Trimmings Stamp Set and matching Christmas Trimmings Dies were used to create this card. The stars are stamps in Bermuda Bay and Smoky Slate Inks. The die cut star was made with the large star die and Rich Razzleberry Cardstock. I added some Bermuda Bay leafy die cuts to my cluster of stars. The sentiment I’ve added is from the Tidings & Trimmings Stamp Set.

I added some detail to the background by brushing Pool Party Ink over the Basic Pattern Decorative Masks with the Blending Brush. Because I had a strip of Metallic Mesh Ribbon laying on my desk, I decided to add that too. Three Silver Metallic Pearls finished off the card.

The team at Freshly Made Sketches have created amazing cards with this weeks sketch. Make sure you pop over to the challenge and see what they’ve created.

Freshly Made Sketches #492

Hey Everyone

We have a new sketch for you to play along with at Freshly Made Sketches and it’s a fabulous one, designed by Cecile Ribon!

I decided to flip the sketch as it worked best for my Gold Foil leaf die cut. This leaf has been cut the with the Artistic Dies. I wanted to use my Tidings and Trimmings Stamp Set again, so I combined the leaf with star and Christmas stocking images. They have been lightly coloured with the Soft Succulent Blends.

To tie in the Soft Succulent to the rest of the card, I matted an embossed piece of Basic White Cardstock with Soft Succulent Cardstock. The embossing folder I used is called the Tasteful Texture 3D Embossing Folder.

I added a light washed background behind the layered images by colouring some Basic White Cardstock with the Light Sea Foam Blend. The sentiment I added is also from the Tidings & Trimmings Stamp Set. One Gold Metallic Pearl finished off the right amount of blingy-ness that I wanted.

Just Add Ink #560

Hey Everyone

It’s Friday, so that means a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week our challenge for you is to:

This is such a pretty colour combination that I have never tried before. I decided to create a card for a great niece who is having a birthday. The stamp set I’ve used is called the Kangaroo and Company Stamp Set.

I stamped my images in Black Mento Ink and watercoloured my kangaroos in Gray Granite Ink.I coloured the chest of them with Coastal Cabana Ink. The little flowers have been watercolored with a combination of Blackberry Bliss Ink and Coastal Cabana Inks. The little presents have been given different shades of Blackberry Bliss and Coastal Cabana Ink. I watered down the ink on the presents to give them a lighter shade.

The three squares of Basic White Cardstock have been embossed with the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder. To finish off the card, I added one clear Elegant Faceted Gem.

The team at Just Add Ink have created gorgeous cards with this colour challenge. Head over to the challenge and see what they’ve created.

Freshly Made Sketches #490

Hey Everyone

It’s new sketch challenge time at Freshly Made Sketches. This week our sketch designer is Jen Brum – even though we’ve never met, I reckon we’d be the best of friends if she decided to move to my side of the world and learned how to scooch to be my height….

I’m trying to revisit stamp sets that I haven’t used in a while – just to make sure I get my use out of them. The Tasteful Touches Stamp Set got a bit of a workout for todays card. So did my fussy cutting skills.

The flowers have been coloured with a combination of Mango Melody and So Saffron Blends. I added the Dark Mango Melody Blend to the centre of the flowers and to add depth to the petals. The leaves were given a very quick colour with the Light Soft Succulent Blend.

The stripe-y DSP I’ve added to the background is from the Hand-Penned Memories & More Pack. It was chosen because of So Saffron and Basic White stripe. I added thin strip of Basic Black to the edge of the DSP just to make the flower pop.

The card base was given some detail with a Blending Brush and some So Saffron Ink. Three Gold Metallic Pearls were added for that bit of bling.

The girls at Freshly Made Sketches have created wonderful cards with Jen’s sketch. Make sure you head over to the challenge and see what they’ve created.

Freshly Made Sketches #489

Hey Everyone

Welcome to my new blog and the newest challenge at Freshly Made Sketches. This week our sketch, that I adore btw, has been designed by the wonderfully talented Linda Callahan.

I can’t stop myself from reaching for the Friends Are Like Seashells Stamp Set. But I told myself that this sketch needed those shells.

The largest image has been coloured with the Mint Macaron Blends. The starfish was given colour with the Pale Papaya Blends. I coloured one of the clam shells with Bermuda Bay Blends and the other one with a light touch of Pale Papaya Blends. The leafy images were coloured with the Bermuda Bay Blends.

The base piece of Basic White Cardstock was embossed with the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder and raised up with dimensionals. I like a lot of height to my cards, so I dimensionalise every layer.

The piece of Basic White Cardstock that my shells have been layered on has been coloured with the Light Soft Sea Foam Blend and the ink splatters stamp has been stamped in Black Memento Ink over the top.

Finally a sentiment, also from the Friends Are Like Seashells Stamp Set, was added.

The team at Freshly Made Sketches have created awesome cards. Head over to the challenge and see what they’ve created. You’re going to love their cards as much as I do.

Thanks for stopping by.
